Should Lafayette do more to conserve resources, and if so, how?

All new development should require individual water meters. Even in condos and townhomes.

I think that Lafayette should be looking at cities like El Paso, TX which have successfully and significantly improved their water usage.  The amount of fresh water that will be available in five years or twenty years is the amount that is available today.  The fresh water fairy isn't going to show up some night and leave us a huge reserve of water.  We need to make better use of it and recycle waste water for re-use.  If El Paso can do it, so can we.

Yes. All new construction should feature rain water recovery features.

We keep paying more fore water from same service lines. New development gets new lines, cleaner water, that are paid by older neighborhoods. I have been paying the sidewalk fee since it started and we have original sidewalks. Where is the Money going? Waneka Lake should have a Native American Name as should our Parks. Stop spending money on a make believe Plaza and build a real one where tax revenue helps our Community, and not just certain people. We need more Open Space between Cities.

Yes, we can always do more to conserve our resources. I'd suggest that building codes be tightened to include more energy-efficient technologies, like LEED. Continue promoting alternatives like solar, geothermal, wind, etc. Promote smaller homes, keeping a small, low-impact footprint. Ensure that there are large fines for individuals and companies despoiling our water, air and soil. Make sure there are sufficient trash receptacles (with timely disposal) around town and on trails. Create convenient facility where people can compost and recycle if their trash company does not provide this service .Make/show videos of how much recyclables went into the trash, or the poor quality of contaminated water coming into the water plant that needs to be ameliorated before it can be used once again or the things that may have been dredged up when cleaning Waneka or some Open Space property.
